ULTIMATE mobile office question.

Aloha!
I have an idea and wish to hear what this forum thinks of it.

I've been looking for a light powerful laptop for months now and then something occured to me.

My requirements for this so caled laptop are easy ability to do light photoshop work (making labels for our products), being able to change and update our website, fullfill orders, email customers, you know, the usual store front drill.

however, I thought instead of a laptop, why not get an IPAD, a mobile blue tooth keyboard (since the WIFI models have blue tooth)

and maybe find a way to hook a 24" monitor to the IPAD. (this part I know nothing about since IPAD's do not have HDMI ports)

This way I get ultimate mobility, and a "desktop" environment that feels more rooted and is easier on my eyes and wrists.

what say the forum? Too early to buy a $500 IPAD? Wait till it gets cheaper? Till stuff is fixed? And there willl be bugs!@ lets face it....
overall,....
Yay or Nay?

iPAD already offers an iDock that would let you take advantage of USB connectivity to peripheral devices. I can see that eventually and expansion to external Apple Cinema Display (or relevant LCDs).

So it is feasible at some point in the future in what you have in mind as ultimate mobile office. The down side would be the graphic card performance.

You won't see photoshop on an iPad anytime soon to my knowledge. Maybe other options that might work for you, but not photoshop most likely.

Hopefully that Apple will update/revise the next iPad. But as it stands with the current specs, there is no way that photoshop would perform on the iPad at the moment. Especially trying to fit options on a touch-only interface.

Thats sad.
I was really excited to pinch and zoom my way thru emails, photoshop, working on the website, at home, the office or starbucks. for less than $1000 for the "system"
(Ipad - monitor - wireless keyboard)
Ths freedom this would offer to someone like me who is maried to my desktop, is immense.

Do I have reasonablely priced options as technology stands today?
Are there 10" responsive touch pads out there (not JUST made for kindle! for God's sake - This is IPAD's market, the Kindle Users)

Can this dream system of mobility AND rootedness at home be made true for about $1200 or less with least amount of wires!?

I can see many pads about to be introduced shortly, not with Apple though. We have some threads in the News Section on these pads.

How about...........

getting a 13 inch macbook pro, magic mouse and way to hook up a external monitor (whats the best way to do this? Can I just buy one from tigerdirect and plug it in?)
and get an external harddrive to back things up? maybe a wireless keyboard?

LOL kinda defeats the purpose but I really feel a REAL keyboard and BIG screen makes me feel rooted in an office environment (my wrists and eyes get crazy after 6 hours of being online straight)

does this idea make sense as an ultimate mobile office?

yes its more expensive but I think it can be done in $1500

The macbook pro has a mini-Display-Port. You can get an adapter to HDMI (or DVI) then hook an external monitor to it. I use my 32" HDTV with my macbook via this mini Display Port to the HDMI ports on the TV with no issue.

My set up is bluetooth keyboard and mouse (both Apple devices).
