Top that off with the assurance that you are backed by our robust ‘eco system’ of ISV partners and our ability to deliver the application performance you need to be productive…now that’s getting it done!"

My M4500 shipping got delayed a bit by the Iceland situation. I finally had to order a new workstation after my M65 died on me after years of great performance, everywhere I went around the world.

Ok, time for some system scores. My M4500 has the i7 Q820M with 8Gb Ram and the QFX1800M on Windows 7 64bit. The HDD is the default 320Gb. Screen FHD 1920 x 1080 WLED :

WEI index

Proc 7.1

Ram 7.4

Graphics 6.6

Graphics Games 6.6

HDD 5.9

CineBench 11.5 64bit

Open GL 19.36fps
Ref.Match 99.5%
CPU 2.97pts
CPU (single core) 0.97pts
MP Ratio 3.06x

Splinter Cell Conviction game with FRAPS
Res 1280 x 720 2xMSAA, Medium FX, HDR, ambient occlusion and realtime reflections.

Performance in Deniable Ops is pretty good at about 30fps, but the story campaign averages about 10fps less ( 18fps - 28fps ), but it's still playable. Everyone in the SCC forums is screaming for a performance patch though. It seems the game doesn't support SLi and multicores atm. Overall, it's a fun
stealth/action game with fluid movement and intuitive controls.

I've got one issue with my M4500 though : the ENTER key makes a squeaky noise. I called Dell about it and they told me I should try to open up the M4500 myself but I was on my way to a work meeting. Well, anyway, I'll try to call 'em again and have 'em send a repair guy because I paid big money and warranty for this machine.

Alright, Ubisoft just patched Splinter Cell Conviction ; increases the average framerate with 5 to 10 fps extra.

Also, my 3D Mark06 @ 1280 x 1024

You might want to submit these scores into our benchmark database to make them official here at NBF

@Knot3D Do you honestly ever plan on using 8 gb of ram Anyways, it's pretty clear that this is meant to be a workstation lappie and not a gaming beast. I wonder how well the FX1800M performs on tasks like autocad and the like since it doesn't look like it does too well in your typical gamer benchmarks.

nVidia Partner Certified Drivers guarantee top performance of FX 1800 M in CAD, 3D applications. Even thought the FX 1800 M is based on the same chip as the GT 335 M, it is being tweaked with special drivers and BIOS to work with business apps. So obviously games (benchmarks) need to take this (tweak) in consideration of when testing.

Ehm, yeah...I can easily bring those 8Gb ram to its knees in Zbrush... the more RAM, the more subdivision levels I can add into my 3D models.

I don't see why it wouldn't do well in Autocad...

About the game bench marks... ehmm 7472 is a pretty good score imo...also, Splinter Cell Conviction is a fun game, but clearly an Xbox360 port ; poorly optimized. Still, 25 to 40 fps is decent imo.

Anyway, I called Dell about the squeaky ENTER key and they sent me a replacement keyboard. Indeed, the procedure is easy as pie.

I didn't expect to see the fan directly beneath the keyboard ; but this is convenient since I was worried about dust/cig smoke ; which I didn't see there fortunately.

Too be sure I sprayed some compressed air in there too clean it.

Here some pics of the replacement procedure :

I really should bench my lappie at work. Dell Precision (don't know model off top) Core2 2.66, FX2700M (overclocked 20% gpu/memory/shaders), 17" 1920x1200. Probably costed the company a pretty penny and it weighs a bloody ton but it's awesome. Text and what not on screen are super tiny, but it's docked 99% of the time to dual 20" monitors.

M6500 maybe? That would be nice if you can share us some benchmarks.

Close, M6400. Had to open the lid up to get the model but was lazy about doing it sooner cause opening the lid messes with the docking stuff

In a few weeks I'll make the time to install 3dmark06 and see how fast it is.

Looking forward to it.
