Dell Studio 1737 Screen Does Not Turn On

Hi,

I installed windows 7 ultimate today on my studio 1737. I first as always install the dell drivers and update windows.

I was told by a dell tech to flash the bios. When I did this, the bios froze right near the end of being complete. I waited for about 15 mins and nothing, not even the mouse moves.

So I pressed the power button and hold it for about 10 seconds and nothing. The only thing left for me to do was to pull the power cord and the batterie so the computer will turn off which of course did happen.

Here is my major problem... When I power on the computer, everything works except No Screen, it is totaly black, does not turn on, but the keyboard lights are on and the hard drive is running.

Is there anyway for me to fix this problem, or do I need to get the lcd and motherboard changed.

Please help, I am a DJ and need my computer for my next gig on Thursday asap.

Thanks

P.s My external screen does not pick up anything from my laptop.

When you plugged in the external, did you try toggle the FN key?

If the external monitor toggle Fn + F Key does not work

then I think your BIOS flash did not complete properly,

A blind flash may fix it,

Flashing the bios should be done in a DOS environment not windows.
If you did this and it hung at some point, the bios is screwed, and thus ur mainboard. Ud have to find the bios chip, desolder and get a new one from dell.
It's running cause the bios is starting and then failing, so the damn thing can't even post properly.
I think unless you have a very geeky friend around who can desolder, resolder and flash a chip seperately with your bios on hand, that you're best telling dell what happened so they can get you a new mainboard while their techs change this ones bios chip.

Blind flashing works assumed you can boot the thing guys. It's not a video card bios flash, not with dell saying do this thing. That's not needed these days and dell certainly wouldn't recommend that.

Sorry for the long delay, the bios chip on the motherboard was erased while flashing the bios. For some reason it did not install the new bios, so they changed my motherboard and it worked.

Wow - So is this a motherboard problem or a bug in the BIOS itself that causes the issue?

cheers ...

Seems Dell has had allot of bad flashes happen with thier latest BIOS updates.

I noticed now they seem to be issuing updates that have to be burned on CD rather than the Windows option.

That would be a good idea if one has an OS other than Windows. One stop process.

cheers ...
