Alienware M5550i-R3, 8600 gt issue

Thread Starter
Basicly I have upgraded my card from a ati x1400 to an 8600gt that was out of an asus(because the ati died on me). When I switch on the laptop the laptop boots fine (as I can ear windows booting) However the screen is just black. All the way through the boot process and into windows nothing comes on the screen.
Any ideas?

Try hooking up an external monitor to see if it's just a lose connection to your LCD screen or a problem with the video card. Where did you buy the card from?

Try waiting and if a BSOD(about nv4display) occurs, theres something wrong with either compatibility or the card is screwed.
and try if you can, going into Safe Mode.

Apparently, if your card is screwed (you can see a crappy image on external but nothing on the built-in screen, or nothing at all on either, take out your video card, and bake it in the oven at 385 (pre-heat it first) for 10 mins. I put mine in today for 12 mins at 385 degrees (added the 2 extra mins, figured it wouldn't hurt) and by the end of my lunch, I had a working M5500i-r3 withe the nvidia 6600 card. I read how to do this on the forum this morning, and I swear it works.

Haha! Thank you, great to be a part of the club. Now, I'm going to try that with my XBOX that's throwing the infamous E74 error when I get home

That would be something. Let us know how it pans out.

Sorry that my post is coming so late ...

Nvidia's 8600GT needs an modified cooler, anyway.

That may be some milled out area around graphic card's build which is preventing ya card to properly contact a copper cooler.

If done, it looks really ugly after milling process.

Dont want to have it in my cute ^^ M5500, even if you cannot see whole desaster build from outside the case.
