ii have a dell inspiron b130 and every once in a while the thing just shuts off lke the bat has been takin out, no shutdown process or nothin. i know the battery is shot, i was just wondering if its the cord or the ac jack on the computer itself??? i can mess with the cord by the computer and i can get it to work. but also the cord has been chewed on near in the middle between the ac plug and the power brick.... any help before i start buying parts is appriciated....

I would go for another adapter if it does not look physically sound ("chewed") Never know what happens when the thing warms up.

AHHH that happened to me too. It was a short in the DC jack. Just resoldering it might be good enough, yoou amy not even need a new jack, they get loose after plugging in and out a lot, if oyu have the computer apart, have it on and wiggle that jack and look for a spark, it should short and shut down instantly.

It IS probably that. I'm like 95% positive since I've dealt with that as well.

Ok. So it is a jack for sure cuz I can wiggle the jack and it'll shut off. But now I'm pretty sure it might be over heating for some reason and shuting of randomly without movin the computer. And then it won't turn on and stay for a lil while.... So now I have that also... And it needs a battery...

One thing at a time, and it might resolve the others. Go 1st with the jack.

It's the jack.

Mine happened that way too, once and a while it just has a bit extra voltage and the spark happens, trust me resolder it on and it will work again. Don't even need a new one.

Ok. But that's why its just shutting off?? Cuz... Idk how to explain it... It ... Shuts down and won't stay on contunously until it cools down for a while... The jack I know is lose so how do I fix it???
Yeah the cool down isn't actually that, when u press the power button its shorting and you just happen to make it work, wiggle it right after a shut down then power on without waiting to confirm.

Fixing it involves opening up the laptop, plugging it in, turning it on, and wiggling the plug around looking for the spark. Then resolder. If its the jack which it probably is that is shorting, then resolder it by using your trusty heat gun, heating the solder already on it, and adding abit more, with care though, dont get it on anything else. This fix may or may not involve taking out the motherboard depending on how cramped it is to solder in there.
