change aspire 5534 cpu

Thread Starter
I'd like to change the CPU in my Acer Aspire 5534. It has a 1.2g AMD dual core at present with 4g memory. It's a nice refurbished machine I didn't pay much for. Came with W7 64.

Video is a little jerky. Would like to change CPU if possible. I'm proficient with that type thing. Thanks

If I am not mistaken this model comes with AMD Athlon 64 L110 processor which makes it very hard to upgrade

I could be wrong.

cheers ...

If it's possible I can do it. May not want to, though. Can it be overclocked?

I am not familiar with this CPU so I can't comment on the overclocking. One must remember that this is simple (fixed) configuration (AMD Athlon 64 L110 + ATI Radeon X1270) to offer good value systems for many.

But then again I have seen many users turning netbooks in serious gaming machines

cheers ...

Do you have any good links? If I change anything I'll post here.

Run CPU id and tell us exactly the CPU... I think those lappies came with a mobile Turion x2 64 bit CPU and I cannot remember one being below 1.6Ghz...

Maybe you guys can really help me! CPU ID says: Name: AMD K8 Brand ID: 6 Package: Socket S1 (638) Core VID: 0.875 V Specification: AMD Athlon X2 Dual L310 Core Speed: 1197.0

L310/L110 - I have not seen nor heard anyone that can upgrade this CPU, at least with this AMD chipset anyway.

cheers ...

Oh well, at least I can quit pursuing it. Thanks If I come by something I'll put a comment back here.

No , my bad I haven't come across this CPU yet... Looks like it is a dual core CPU aimed at the lower end of the market, i.e. low speed, low power consumption and apparently it does well against the Atom... Check this ....

With a 15w TDP I am not thinking much upgrade option. Meaning likely soldered to the board and even if not you can't put a standard TDP CPU in.

That is probably the case if it was in a netbook... Most acer laptops, the CPU is easy to get to, may be worthwhile having a look...

Maybe I should take it apart and have a look! Spent too much time screwing with Win 7, getting things the way I want.

it's just a normal S1 socket, but like was stated low TDP keeps upgrade options low.

an L310 would be a nice upgrade. Other S1 processors would also work, but you would probably have overheating issues.
