P-7805u FX HD Problems?

I need help, my laptop keeps randomly freezing; I can move my mouse but can't click on anything, I have to hold down the power key. I'v tried many maintenance steps including disk check, defrag, cleaning registry, removing old/unneeded programs. Everytime I run a disk check, I always have a ton of corrupted files.

I downloaded seatools diagnostic test and ran the long/short test but it failed them both. I also downloaded HD Tune and ran an error check which came back clean and a health check which had 2 reported problems: it had warning next to (05) Reallocated sector count and next to (OA) Spin Retry Count. My HD tempature is also 55C degrees with a cooling fan under it (edit: I just checked temp again and it's at 49%, I guess it takes a while to cool down after playing a game).

Does anyone know what the problem is? I filed a claim with my warranty but they emailed me back saying it's a software problem and told me to reinstall my operating system. However, I think it's a hard drive problem and not a software problem.

What do you guys think?

Thanks

I would give them (support) the benefit of the doubt and re-install the OS anew. It's 50/50 from what you described.

Thanks, I'm waiting on an email from my college with windows 7 pro (my school is part of msdn academic alliance so we can get w7 free). However, it's spring break so it'll be a few days before I get the new O/S. Is there any free tests I can run in the meantime to find a definite answer to whether my HD is bad/ has bad sectors or if it's a software problem?

Windows chkdsk is pretty good in telling you if the drive has bad sectors. That's what I mostly rely on.

i'v been having trouble getting that to work. I schedule it to run with my next restart and when I restart my computer, it doesn't do it.

Something is going wacko within your system then. A re-installation maybe? Many users do try to fix the "scheduling" issue, it never works correctly for me. A clean install and fresh format always do the trick.

I was able to do a chkdsk /f and chkdsk /r after switching my computer to boot in safemode. The results came back clean so I guess it is a software problem. I'm getting a copy of windows 7 soon so I'll try the install soon.
