Can I make a backup onto a new HD?

I have a Dell XPS M1530 with Vista Ultimate. I just reformatted the drive, installed everything and it is now running perfectly. I also have a spare SATA HD, and I'm wondering if there is a way I can back up my laptop onto this spare drive so that if I ever need to I can simply put in the new drive and have it work. I can create an image of the existing drive (I have one created on Macrium Reflect), but can I load it onto the new empty HD?

Thank you, anyone!

I would use a back up tool to back it up to DVD... Then I would put the spare drive in and run the backup DVD's to it... If it works then you know you have two forms of backup which is always a good thing...

Thanks, Guys!

I downloaded EASEUS and it is great! No frills, but a terrific gui and everything worked the first time through. Never even heard of it before. I did the clone onto a spare drive (in a external HD case) so now all I need is for it to work if I ever need it. I guess I could try swapping drives just to see . . .
As usual, NotebookForums to the rescue.

Aloha from Hawaii!
