Aspire 3620 Display Issues

Thread Starter
I am trying to set up my son's 3620 for use by my wife and I am having issues with the display size. I have a 2" black strip of screen down the right side of the screen and the menu bar appears to to twice the size in height and can't be adjusted. I have tried everything I know to get the display to go full screen to no avail.
I have downloaded and installed the latest VGA and video drivers from the Acer website. I have tried uninstalling and then try to let the system find and re-install new hardware and it 'bombs' out each time saying it can't find what it needs and I need a CD.
I am stumped at this time. Anyone have any ideas??

Have you access to an external monitor to see if the problem persists. If not, then it could be a failing GPU (Vid chip).
I assume by trying everything, you mean you have been into the display properties and changed resolution to a few different sizes???

I have not hooked it up to anothe monitor to check that out but I will try it. I have been into DISPLAY PROPERTIES and changed the resolution and it changes but the display size that is lit up never changes. It's as if I am stuck with a 12" screen size. Nothing I try seems to have any effect on the displayed size of the background.

Thanks for the tip,

As a last resort, there is talk on other sites about a possible BIOS upgrade, but that would be a last resort as any missteps could result in a dead laptop. See if qhn or one of the others has any other suggestions

When I downloaded the latest driver sets from the Acer website I also got the latest BIOS upgrade and installed that also.
I downloaded and installed everything that ACER had listed as an upgrade hoping that is all it was. Obviously something else going on here.

Try with an external monitor when you can first. After that I personally would look into the cabling and the inverter.

cheers ...
