Recommend replacement for D620?

Thread Starter
I have a D620, but it's starting to see its age from daily wear and tear for over 3 yrs. I have been really happy with this model (this is my 2nd), but looking at Dell's current lineup I'm not sure if there's anything similar. SO.. if someone cares to recommend something by Dell or another manufacturer I'd appreciate any comments.

Here is what I like about it in particular (and what I want in another):

1) Pretty solid construction all around - I drag this thing everywhere and have travelled tons with it- , including how there is no "give" on the screen when up - hope that's understandable, what I mean is it locks in place pretty well.

2) The 14" screen size - 15 is just a little too big for travelling and 13 too small for working..

I use it primarily for development, so super duper video card not important, I have another one for games and the like.

Supposedly new E series Latitudes on the 30th of this month, if you can wait, the 14" is apparently going to keep 16:10 aspect unlike the 15"

I would just upgrade your current system. The D620 (or upgrade to the D630) are very reliable systems. We see very few system board issues.
In most cases, the systems can be upgraded to C2D CPUs , 250Gb hard drives and 4GB ram.

I would recommend the E series latitude, rather than upgrade your current one

I have E6400 and the 2.5 cpu feels no different to the 2.8 in my other M6300. I actually prefer the E6400 because of the mobility, they are very light

I actually have 2 in the house one with integrated and one with nvida and I do notice the difference, get nviida

What I do is buy the recent generation on ebay - they all have 3 years (form purchase) Next business day warranty anyway, and you can get big discount to new as large companies get rid of stock/orders through third party - its easy enough to transfer the warranty

The 1440x900 ccfl screens are best for me on that resolution but the 12000x800 are LEDs and good quality. Its a real pain to change screen types (can be done) but would not recommend it, easier to buy the configuration you want then upgrade hard drive etc
