Wireless Adapter keeps disappearing

Hi,

I have a Compaq Presario F572US, and for some odd reason, my wireless adapter keeps disappearing! I reinstall the wireless adapter software, then I make sure the wireless switch is turned on and after a number of reboots, the wireless adapter will show up, for me to connect to a wireless network. Once I reboot, then the adapter just completely disappears! I go to device manager and I don't even see it in the network adapter section.

Any ideas what is causing this? I scanned for virus and spyware and my system appears to be clean.

Loose connection? You could take out the screws in the back of your notebook and see if the wires are loose. That's the first thing I'd look at.

I believe this is a known issue. Fix is a replacement of the motherboard.

Just got off the phone with HP, and they said the one time warranty program for this fix has expired in Aug of 2009. They want me to pay $250.00 to replace the motherboard. This is crazy! I'm not paying $250.00 for a motherboard that I didn't cause to be faulty. For that kind of money, and I buy a new laptop.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

"bake" it! I know - it seems to be my response to last resort solution before dumping/replacing the comp.

Either that or get yourself an external wifi adapter and be done with it.
