My alienware m15x would not suddenly boot up. The power light and the alienware emblem on the cover keep changing colours without anything happenning with the machine. Can anyone help????? Thank you for your time.

cheers

Try with battery alone? with only ac? Re-seat the ram modules?

cheers ...

also, pull CMOS and hook up to external monitor

Same thing happened to me, I had to send it in ultimately and it got a motherboard replacement. One thing you could try is to hold down right mouse to force an INtel GPU startup. I didn't think about that one until my PC was sent away but I think that could do something. Please keep us at least me informed as to whats going on and what happening. I'm curious to know because I had THE EXACT same issues and after calling alienware they just told me to ship it in and they replaced the MOBO for me. I tried moving this moving that doing this doing that, and pretty soon it wouldn't even show up anymore. I think it's the Cmos but be careful on moving the Cmos it has to be done in a particular way. This is a very Fussy Machine IMO, and requires a good amount of maintenance and knowledge to use, and again this was my first alienware. And this alienware got me HOOKED, all PC's from here on out are going to be alienwares, lol.

I don't want to scare you but I personally belive that the MOBO on this system won't last beyond 2 years. But.... I could be wrong, lol, just a hunch.

thanks for all the replies. I tried reseating RAM , the battery/ac options and no result. darkloki when you say to hold down the right mouse button you mean before I push the power button? How long should I hold it down? the CMOS is the motherboard battery? Sorry but I am little bit clueless. Can it be the motherboard battery and it needs replacement?

Yes the CMOS is the tiny circular battery on the MOBO. Sometimes it dies, and prevents the notebook from booting. Sometimes reseating it will fix the connection of the battery. Common problem with a lot of computers.

Yeah if you hold down the right mouse button alone, by itself for like 5 second maybe more it should boot up on its own and go to Intel INtegrated Graphics. To confirm we're talking about the Area-51 M15x and not the m15x with an i7 chip right? Cause ignore everything I've said if we're talking about the i7 M15x. Also here is the giuide I used for Cmos. http://4help.alienware.com/cgi-bin/a...i=&p_topview=1

Granted I had to do this when my system was stuck on Intel Graphics and couldn't switch to NVidia, because I had done that right mouse button startup on the system. AFter replacing CMOS my system worked flawlessly, (All of that happened AFTER the new Moterhboard was installed) and they just sent me a blank system with windows 7 and no product key entered and no drivers. But perhaps just how I would have wanted it, lol. All system are a go, now with no problems. Love this Lappie EVER with a M17x R2.

again thank you all for the fast and helpfull replies. I am afraid nothing worked so far. I am going to get a new battery(CMOS) and see from there after. If that does not work as well then it needs motherboard.

cheers

SO when the system is off, holding down on right mouse button doesn't force a boot up what-so-ever? It's suppose to force up an intel Boot Up.

that is true. Holding down the right mouse btn does not do anything.

the battery change did not bring upon any change. So now I do not know whether is my motherboard or graphics card. In my country there is no alienware support. Any reccomendations how to resolve this?

had the same problem... about 4 times.

They are in the process of replacing the entire system.

Yea I'm convinced the motherboards go bad after a while or specific time period. ALot of people in year 1.5-2 had problems with their system. I need to ask though, do you think switching to the INtel INtergrated prolongs the life at all? of the overall system? I mean obviously it'll prolong the life of the Videocard, but I'm wondering about the whole system.

Thanks. I'm worried about my system, I like it so much, lol.

Man I was digging through my old posts for some silly dumb reason and then I remembered this one, I did actually come across a motherboard but I ended up selling it for 100 dollars to a nice fella in Australia. Pay attention to the for sale section, I listed a motherboard on there for this system.
