since this lappy was miss labeled does any one know if it is possible to upgrade the graphix card in it? and if i could slap a i7 in it?

Graphic chip (GPU) NO. Processor i5 to i7 may be possible
post #3 of 15
As saugen said "no", it is a part of the chip. You can more than likely upgrade the processor to the 520m or 540m although no one has done it yet, would be a high probabality they either would work since the 430M is supported. The bigger guestion is can they run the I7-620m, since again no one has tried one yet. But regardless a processor upgrade is not going to help in the video department. The I7-720QM and 820QM would not do any good because they do not include the onboard Intel HD graphics. No one at this point knows what the BIOS will support at this time.

thanks for the replys, So i guess the question is what i7 m cpus have gfx on them ..
CPUs don't carry graphic chip on them, if that what gfx means in your post.

cheers ...

In other words, there is nothing u can do to upgrade the graphics. As mentioned, if it is possible to upgrade the i5 to i7, that will not help graphics only a possible slight increase in processing power
post #7 of 15
yes that is wat it means and u will just be getting a better processer

well what about this then? intell claims and when you look at the specs on the chips them selfs that both the 430m i5 and the i7 620m have intergated graphics right on the chip, and that the mobile i5 430m is only a dual core chip with the other part being the gfx side, same goes with the i7 620m,

Platforms based on the Mobile Intel® 945GM Express Chipset and above, when configured with memory devices of adequate amount and speed, meet all current requirements for the Microsoft Windows Vista* Premium OS system logo. Next-generation power-saving features are available on Mobile Intel® GM965, GL960, and PM965 Express Chipsets.

my lappy runs on this chip set,
Chassis with Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator HD with 128MB of dedicated system memory supporting Microsoft® and Mobile Intel® HM55 Express Chipset10

also i was trying to figure out where i should go to figure out compatible screens if i want to try and figure out what screens would be compatible if i wanted to swap out to a higher resolution screen from the stock, 0ne.
the screen resolution is dependent on the vid card and not the screen

Up to certain point I am afraid. A good vid card cannot push a higher resolution than the screen can support

Intertwining I would say

In theory you can put the i7 on HM55 Chipset. But watch out for BIOS constraint. Unless someone already tried it, you will be the first to test it out.
