Toshiba Vs HP? Overall quality??

For the 800-900.00 price range, is there much difference between these two brands for overall buld quality?? Anyone have experience with both of these in the past year?

You will not get the answer you want. No normal consumer can answer even if they own both. Neither makes them. You are barking up the wrong tree, sorry dude.

I would go HP but they have overheated in the past.

I own and use HP and Toshiba. But I don't own both with the same price range as powerpack pointed out

I like the ones I have so far. Would I buy from them again? Sure, it depends on the models that I like. And no, HP did not overheat on (lucky) me

For some (unknown) reason I like HP, but yes, I've seen several HPs (and Compaqs) overheating.

But my experience with Toshiba is extremely limited (just one friend's laptop several years ago), so I can't say if they also have overheating issues.

I go on this one... Toshiba repairs, few and far between.... HP repairs, very common, esp cracked cases - however that may be down to HP being cheaper and therefore more popular... I own a Toshiba and 2 HP's... Not in the same price range - Toshiba has better build quality, but less features.....

I agree with Mr T but my info is several years old. Have trends changed? Dunno. In the end I didn't really care for HP or Toshiba.

Many truths here.

As ghn said, it all depends on the model. Maybe Toshiba has a nose of an advantage at that price range, or at least that has been my experience with models that I owned/tested.

A long, long time ago I had a Satellite that gave me problems. Flimsy opticals (TEACs) and flexible cases.

Please do not go for HP. I have seen many issues with the HP video and LCD. Having said that, the high-end HP laptops seems to be OK, but pricey. Anyway, you will not find a reliable HP laptop under $800.
Toshiba on the other hand, is way higher than HP when it comes to durability and performance. (any Qosmio series)

My last four laptops have been Toshibas. Two of the four have had serious overheading issues.
Satellite L305D Serious Overheating
Satellite P205 No overheating
Satellite A45-S150 Serious overheating. Bought P205 because processor would continually shut the system down on high heat.
Toshiba 2805-S503 Minor overheating problems
