Alienware m15x :(

I got a new Alienware laptop for Crimbo - specs below - i'ma little bit dissapointed, although i may be at fault here. I hav Empire total war - the opening movie stutters, its not smooth as i would expect from this heavy duty machine during the game. I've had problems with windows 7 crashing and not being able to recover from the recover cd, and hvaing to reinstall. All my drivers are up to date. I can boot up the machine say, watch a movie and then if i want to play modern warfare i have to re-boot the machine as the grahpics are to jerky, similar to lag on online game. I'm trying to look at fine tuneing the machine maybe, as i would think the specs below i should be able to do anything to this machine!! Any advice from you guys on this ? i'm even thinking of selling it and buying somthing a bit more portable...
But maybe i need to make sure everythings set up ok - where to start?

Did you get the latest game patches for Windows 7 from the game sites, if they have any?

yupa ll up to date patches, i'm actually thinking of wipeing it and re-installing Windows 7 and then going through the process again....

Before trying that, make sure that BIOS is up to date as well if you haven't done so already

Make sure it's not on stealth Mode?.... I'm allowed to say that right? It's a possibility right?
