Best, brightest LED displays for Studio 7

I love the current 1920x1200 LED display on my 1737, but it has developed some dead pixels (not sure how that happens). I do have complete coverage, and I can get the screen replaced.

I've heard that there are some manufacturers or models of screens that are preferred. Which are they?

Also, how do you tell the manufacturer of an already-installed display...Are there utilities that do that?

Thanks

I am not sure about this myself. Going for best price and good warranty is what I am doing.

..
Not that I am aware of. Manufacturers do not have a set screen type/supplier for any models. It all depends on what they get, how many and at what price before notebooks assembly.

cheers ...

As far as the replacement screens, Dell will tell you that they cannot control which manufacter you wil get, and so you will either get a Samsung, LG or Phillips screen.

There have been times where one was better than another, and your only recourse is simply take what you get, and if it has issues such as dead pixels, or leakage than you can ask Dell to replace it again.

there are utilities like Everest, etc that maybe able to identify the model, but it is hit and miss.

Best way os to simply look at the part number on the back of the LCD panel

Thanks for your replies.

A couple times, I've been able to reach someone at Dell who authorized a particular part. That may not be the case now. I guess one can only try.

Re the display: I hesitate to start taking the system apart. My older Inspiron, yes, but I'm not familiar with the physical structure of the Studio 1737 yet. There used to be a utility called...hmm.. Powerstrip? That could supposedly identify the model. It was discussed here quite a bit. I was hoping that there was something like that that could reliably ID the current panel. I guess not.

I wish I at least knew which of the display models have worked well for others.

you can try to identify the screen, it may work, but I have also seen the same ID be identified for different models
