"Out of Range" message on external monitor

I just installed a new 22" display on one of our Dell D620's that's on a port replicator and got a "out of range" message. After spending a LOT of time looking through all sorts of "hey, this might work" attempts to help, I finally figured it out. Most of these were on M/S sites, because I was fixated on this being an issue with just this laptopl The display worked fine on two other laptops in our office, just not on this one. Then I just replaced the standard HD cable that shipped with the new monitor with a DVI cable, and Ta-DA!

Judging from the huge numbers of times this issue has been posted on various Web sites, it is a common problem, so here's at least one fix that actually works. I have no idea why, but it works!

Aloha from Hawaii!

It's public domain; feel free to use it! But be advised it is an unpopular sentiment with some folks of the religious persuasion!
