IBM T40 problem

Hi
I have an IBM T40 2373.last week it would not start up windows, i took it in for repairs and was told the hard drive was defective. I decided to repair it myself and have the new hard drive installed. I know i will need the recovery cd but i need to know if that will fix the problem. At start up i get PXE-E61 media test failure, check cable...PXE-MOF exiting itel boot agent. Operating system not found.
Is this normal before i buy the cd recovery.
Also on e bay a store said i need the Windows OS CD..and the Thinkpad drivers CD.is this right info.
Thanks

That is the standard error message on many comps when the system cannot see a hard drive presence.

The laptop will look for the boot devices in order, usually CDROM first and network boot last... PXE-MOF is the network boot, so as ghn said it is OK...

If you didn't get any recovery discs with the laptop, you'll need a windows disc and the disc must be the one on the license sticker on the base of the laptop, ie if it is windows XP HOME OEM, the disc you use must be XP Home OEM.. You cannot buy the discs separately as this contravenes Microsofts copyright rules, however if you borrow one and use that you are fine providing you use the license key on the license sticker on your laptop... You can buy a disc with a license though, which is a) expensive and b) no good to you as you already have a license...

If you don't have the drivers for the laptop, you can down load them off the IBM/Lenovo website

If Lenovo mentioned that you only need one CD from them then just leave it at that. Get the disk from them, proceed with the installation and see.
