Swap out the ram modules if you have 2. Or leave one off to test.

BSOD after Windows log in is the issue of driver, most if not all of the times. How about booting into Safe Mode?

it would it have to be a usb or wireless i guess ,would that take over as long as the laptop keyboard was plugged out??
If no keyboard is being present, it might get stuck forever.

Did you check for a short? This happened to me the same way with a laptop once.

This laptop sounds like it's having a tough end of career...the hd thing sounded like not enough power to the hd (power supply issue), the keyboard sounds like a stuck key or an improper seating of the keyboard ribbon, and this issue sounds like the gpu.

I think it's all based on one short. somewhere, check your dc plug on the motherboard, wiggle it while it's on and look for any sparks, it might just need to be resoldered. That fixed my 'customer''s I guess you could say, laptop.

Last gasp is to take the comp apart and give it a good clean up with new thermal paste.

ran a chkdsk in dos and turned up lots of bad sectors etc , so i cant wipe the drive because " a program is acessing the volume "error and i cant end the program in dos cause xp home doesnt have tasklist command so i guess its a new hd and clean install of windows xp

Sounds like a very good plan to me. Good luck.

Wierd, I only ever had bad sectors just give me random crashes and losses of data, never slow downs. I thought that hds remap bad sectors on chkdsk running anyway.
