SpeedFan

So I'm trying to get SpeedFan setup on my HP NC 6220, so I can control the fan. I don't ever seem to hear it come on, like ever. Although I haven't really used to laptop to stress the CPU at all.

When I installed SpeedFan, I do not see any options to change/alter the settings of the fan. The fan tab is blank.

Not sure what the problem could be. Either SpeedFan doesn't fully support my notebook and/or maybe my fan isn't working.

Try NHC - notebook hardware control - instead?

Yea I just tried NHC, as soon as I installed it my fan powered up then cut back off. So I'm pretty sure SpeedFan just doesn't support this model laptop.

Hmm.. something still isn't right.

I just ran Prime95 for a few minutes and my CPU temp got up to a little over 60*C and the fan never came on with NHC running.

What gives?

I had it setup for:
Low - 40*
Medium - 50*
High - 55*
Maximum - 60*

Fan never came on, I stopped Prime95 and the temp slowly went back down. When it got to around 51-52*C, the fan kicked on low but then went back off.

If I can't get the fan to kick on when the temps get high, a Pinmod might be out of the question for me.

First thing first, how about giving the comp a complete clean up with new thermal paste?

Well I ordered a 1.7/400/2M processor off ebay, I also ordered a tube of AS5 from the 'Egg. Once it gets here, I will get that done. Although the fan not coming on when it needs to come on has me a little worried.

I would be concerned as well but it could be that the app read the temp wrong, hopefully. Clean it all up first and try again, that's my recommendation.
