Looking at purchasing laptop in UK

Hi all,

Well, as my XPS Gen 2 is now officially kaput, can I have your help in looking for a suitable replacement?

I'm looking for something I can play games on mainly, but also something that will have a reasonable amount of life in it, probably at least a 15" screen, but because of a few unknown factors, could you suggest something based on the following budgets:

£700.00 / $1000.00
£1000.00 / $1500.00
£1300.00 / $2000.00

I'm leaning towards Dell because of the added flexibility, and price, and saw the entry level Studio 16 and alienware M15x which are the about the same price. Are they comparable though, as the Studio 16 seems to have a lot more bang for your buck? I also get a 6% saving if the laptop is under £1200, and a 10% if over that amount.

I'm a bit confused at the difference between the Intel i3, i5 and i7 chips (is there alot of difference?) and also are the AMDs any good?

Any help would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks

K

I would stay with Dell in Europe as well. But then again for UK you do have some good support with the old AW team

Core i5 and i7 are good (performance wise) and efficient (battery life and cooling). AMD tends to run a bit warm. Mostly personal choice when come to CPU. I am an AMD fan myself so I can be bias

Is there a lot of difference between the i5 and i7? What I mean is, would your average laptop user notice is?

If you go by numbers then there are differences. But if you take it in context of an overall performance it might not be so much.

Review the price, a difference of a few hundred quids for the CPU is not worth it

Okay, so what about the difference between the AW m15x and Dell Studio 16?

Dell studio 16 is a good choice.

Could you go into more detail as to why, please?

Okay, so I'm starting to veer towards either the Studio 16 or AW M15x. Any opinions?

What's the difference in price? The Studio 16 is a very good performer without the extra quids of the AW

cheers ...
