hp pavilion dv9925nr optical drive not working

Hello
I recently came across this laptop and I was wondering why the optical drive isn't working. I checked the device manager and there seems to be no trace of it.

Now here is the story. The laptop was actually upgraded from vista ultimate to windows 7 home premium. By the looks of it there is no driver support for this laptop on hp's site at all. The person who did this really didn't know what there were doing. So now I'm stuck having to fix it for them

So the person actually wants me to revert them back to vista ultimate. I was thinking of using my old xp install then using there own Vista ultimate upgrade cd to finish it up. So what do you think? What can I do to get this guy rolling.

Have you tried using the Vista Upgrade disk for re-installation? This way you don't need to worry about finding a sata driver for the hard drive, unless there is a BIOS setting to turn off AHCI support for XP.

cheers ...
