PC Microworks repair advice

Hi all!

I own one of those Quad-Core XR5's and it has developed a problem with one of the hard drives, causing the entire raid system to fail. Basically, that means that all the data I had (including system data) was lost.

Friends of mine that have taken a look at the system were basically able to fix the hardware problem (or so I think), but were unable to install an operating system properly due to the absense of native drivers for pretty much anything.

Could any one of you please advise a good laptop repair service in London, UK that would be able to fix my system?

Thanx in advance

I don't know about XP, but you might want to consider W7 or Linux OS. They would pick up relevant drivers on line for you.

For XP, you need to go direct to device manufacturers and download the drivers direct from them.

Hi!

Thanx for reply. I used to have Vista/XP dual boot on my machine (actually reason no 1 why I chose it), but I think when they were fixing my laptop they installed Win 7. And somehow they still had problems with drivers.

I think its largely because PCM used rather unusual components in its laptop such as a desktop processor.

Anyways, hate to show my lack of understanding of the subject, so I do need professional help

Download Everest Home and see if you can pick up the different devices. Then search the drivers from the manufacturers sites.

Hi,

I've come across W7 not being able to find drivers online, but only with systems that were designed to run Vista (very rarely XP). in these cases we just go back to Vista, manufacuturer site have the drivers

Other than some SD readers and some camera, W7 can pretty much pick up everything else (drivers) in order to make a system run. At least it works so far for me on many old comps (XP included)

cheers ...
