Vaio Z vs MacBook Pro

Thread Starter
It's been 2 years now that I have been using a macbook pro 15", and it's time to update for a better one.
Most important, I need one that is lighter and with a better battery time (mine is lasting about 2 hours only...)

While I've became really happy with apple (almost a macfag, sorry: an excelent trackpad, good multitouch functions, osx fits me much better than windows - especially because of Logic Studio), their last refresh was a tremendous outrage...
If I want a small notebook (13"), I have to stick with a Core 2 Duo and a GF320 with miserly 256mb.

With a much different philosophy, I found Sony Vaio Z, a 13" notebook a bit lighter than macbook pro 13" and heavily equiped (i7 and a 330 with 1gb...)

The problem is... I am pretty much unwilling to change my OS, and apple hardware (trackpad, mics, isight, magnetic plug charger, etc, etc) seem to be much much better than sony - for my user profile, I must say.
In the other hand, although I don't need THAT much power for my notebook, Vaio Z is STUPIDLY better than the latest mbpro 13"...

As I am for quite some weeks in this dilemma, I found this forum and maybe someone with a similar question or maybe someone with a good opinion about my case...

Thanks in advance!

Its all personal choice... If you want a small lightweight and power laptop, Sony Vaio Z's look the job... You don't always have to go with M$ windows 7 either, there are plenty of linux distros that can give a more 'mac' feel about things out there...

I personally am not a fan of macs - overpriced, proprietary software etc, but they are stylish and have their niche... Sony's though are on the expensive end of the laptop scale too, but provide some good quality, innovative powerful machines too...

So as it's up to you, you are already weighing up the pros and cons of aesthetics over machine power.....

For those without price considerations (i.e. anyone who is also looking at Apple systems ) the Sony Vaio Z is pretty much the best 13" notebook out there. I'd recommend it to anyone with the money who wants the best. But of course, you'll never put OSX on it (legally) so it's really up to you if you'd rather have the OS or the better system. In my opinion, hardware is more important than software so I'd go with the Sony for that reason.

If he is a fanboy for mac, then this will be a bumpy ride. The OSx version quirks will soon be forgotten when the first glitch is encountered and he will long for the old days.

That said, if an open mind is kept he may find new things to like not avail on the mac side. Hard to say but when spending this much money you need to be sure.

The OS shapes our experiences and IMO this will be hard to overcome given the above description.

It seems that Sony has another winner in the business class notebook again. And actually its price is very competitive when comparing to the same performance of other brands/models. Love to get my hand on one of this for review, still can decide which notebook I must give up to justify it

cheers ...
