Buying a vostro 3300, memory and OS question. Help deciding.

Im thinking on buying a Vostro 3300 from the Dell website.

Seems as a good lappy for editing text and watching some videos and movies.

How much ram can I add to it? Im planning on buying it with only 2GB and planning to upgrade it to its max. Which I don´t know exactly what is.

Also it comes with Intel i3 350 M, any advice on this processor?
The default OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit.

Considering the processor, should I upgrade the OS to 64 bit? Does that actually make a difference at all ?

Thanks in advance for all the guidance.

It says here 8GB max

Core i3-350M is a good processor (performance/heat ratio). You should be able to install 64-bit with no issue, just make sure that Dell has drivers for the comp. Give us a personal review when you have time?

Thanks a lot for the reply. I'm going to buy it asap.

I will make a review, or do my best to do one, considering english is not my native languague.

qhn, when I referred to the OS, I meant that Dell is giving me the 32 bit option and the 64 bit option, with the latest more expensive of course.

The question is, should I upgrade to 64? Is there a huge difference between both or I won't even going to feel any difference considering I want the lappy for word processing, watching videos, web browsing ?

I would go 64 Bit - it is the future in OS, and more and more programs will support it. It runs faster than 32 bit apps.

and if your really going to go above 4 Gb then you need a 64 bit OS.

4 GB should be more than enough ram. since 4 GB DIMMs are still quite $$$.

I am with Dave. 64-bit is the way to go at the moment. It even runs smooth on many of my old comps.

Well, if 64 is the new thing, guess I need to learn about it and update my OS.

Thanks both of you, I almost don´t post on this boards but I use them a lot. I hope that I can contribute a little with my review.

Greetings,

Other than chasing down 64-bit drivers, there is not much to learn but just to enjoy the OS performance. Looking forward to your review

I am not sure if this will help, but I found a coupon code from Dell. You will save $50 on a system $499 or higher. J3QH72D7?JV4BJ

I think it is gears more toward a student, but who knows? =)

They post these deals @ facebook.com/delluniversityFL

woot for coupon.

I hate laptop ram being so expensive, which is why I'm a big fan of any laptop with 4 or more sodimm ports. SO freaking useful. LEARN dell, asus does it!

4 slots will be too much for notebooks There is not enough room inside as it is.
