I Spilled a cup of water on my notebook keyboard.

I have a sony vaio VGN-A190.
Two days ago, I was sitting down and when I got up and walked past the table..my foot got stuck and it knocked over the cup of water that was next to my notebook.

Unfortunately, it was directly next to it...so...it spilled right on top of the keyboard..

I looked back, and the first thing I saw was that the laptop had turned off by itself. Yes...by itself. It just shut down completely. So...basically after 3-5 seconds after the water got into the keyboard...im guessing it reached the motherboard and therefore..the notebook shut off.

So then I immediately just removed all the wires, usb, etc.
Flipped it upside-down.
And water just came splashing out of the keyboard onto the floor..so I just held it like that, slightly shaking it...to get all the water out I can.

So I wiped the floor, and the table.
and then tilted it to one corner so that all the water would seap out of one side (and it did)

Now I left it to dry for 2 days...
and I don't know what to do..
should i try turning it on?
I sorta tried yesterday...but it showed no response...
but im guessing thats only cuz there's still water left...

also..for some reason..I don't think the motherboard fried...because when I spilled the water...there was no sound or any sign (sparks or some weird burnt smell..nothing) that the motherboard got fried.

Any ideas?
and if i try turning it on again..and it shows no response/no lights/no power/nothing...then what does that mean?
does that mean the motherboard fried? or what?

Sounds like a full cup of water splash on it.

Your best chances is to have it serviced. The mobo might still be ok, but small wires like keyboard connector can be fried.

Else if you know how to DIY you can open the case and look around

Ugh....water let's it short, therefore making tons of heat in one component therefore death, you wouldln't be able to smell it if it were small, like the cpu socket. or any transistor or anything really. It's all bare solder connections in there.

Hopefully a motherboard replacement would do it...if your laptop is more than 2 years old though it would end up costing more than a new laptop.

I guarentee there's still water in there, you should put it somewhere warm for probably 5 days, like 25c + . Then try again. Hopefully the motherboard shuts itself down during a short and it wasnt a sign of damage. By a heater would be a good bet.

Sorry that happened. Wishing luck!

Ditto matchbox comment. You just cant get all the water out in a short period by flipping it over. You might only get ONE shot to turn the computer on so you needed to be SURE it was dry. Having "tried" it already your chances are slightly less.

The next issue you might face could be residue left after the water dries. Hard to say though.

Yeah but I don't think the minerals pose much of a problem unless moisture is present. Really don't know though. Hopefully drying it works for you.
