m15x internet problems

Ok, So i have owned my m15x for about a year now, and have used wifi ever since i got it, without any problems.

However, my new apartment does not have wifi and i have to plug into the Ethernet cable.

Every time i start my computer from being completely off (not hibernation or sleep) It won't connect to the internet, until i restart it. I've gotten in the habit of every time i start it, i know it wont connect, so i restart and then it connects right away. I am completely lost.

I've manged to find away around this hassle by putting the computer to sleep instead of shutting down, and this seems to work.

however i usually shut it down every night, and every morning i have to go through this process of restarting to get it to connect. Today i had to restart 6 times before it finally connected.

Thanks for any help

That is a strange situation. Any way to find out if your NIC needs a driver update? Or, is there a way to test the connection with another computer? It sounds more like something with the building's internet, but I could be totally wrong about that.

I've used this computer on multiple internet connections, and still the same result. Having to restart each time. The driver is up to date, I'm just lost right now, no idea what it could be.

Hm, almost sounds like a bad NIC. Yes, you can get connectivity and still have a bad NIC. I've run into laptops on the job where they connect but not at full capacity, and a replacement of either the NIC or the mobo usually fixes the problem.

Check and see if the device is being turned off to save power - as it would when hibernates or sleeps

cheers ...

disable NIC then enable... much quicker than a restart and likely same result.

The computer apparently doesn't even recognize the NIC upon boot, i went to restart it (the NIC), and it wasn't even listed as an option. Just my wifi connection.
