Inspiron 14 - Norton Partition Magic Pro Server error

Thread Starter
I have recently purchased An Inspiron 14 laptop Model S541214IN8. 4GB Ram, 500GB HDD with Windows 7 Home Basic installed. There is only one visible partition of about 455GB.
I wanted to view the actual contents of the drive. Using hiren boot cd I have opened Norton Partition Magic Pro Server. An error message popped up.
"Norton Magic Pro Server has detected an error110 on the partition starting at sector 258048 on disk 1.
The length of the partition in the partition table is incorrect.
The CHS length is 19148472, the LBA length is 19132416, and the file system lenght is 19132415.
Norton Magic Pro Server has determined that the length can be changed to the correct value of 19148472.
Would you like Norton Magic Pro Server to fix this error?" yes/no
When I clicked 'NO', the NPM window has just shown error #105 and nothing else.
I have read that NPM is by far the best one to partiton without loosing the contents of the harddisk. As I want to creat separate data partitions with NPM, somebody please advise whether I can go ahead with NPM or contact DELL as the laptop is under warranty which started a few days back only.

It maybe due to the restore partition Dell creates on the hard drive.

Do NOT let Partition Magic anywhere near a Windows 7 or Vista machine. PM will destroy your partitions. There is nothing wrong with your partitions.

For decades, the industry standard was to align a partition's beginning and ending points along cylinder boundaries. Beginning with Vista, however, Microsoft has started using partitions aligned on megabyte boundaries (blocks of 2048 sectors apiece). Partition Magic and other old utilities that have not been updated still expect partitions to adhere to the legacy standards. Since PM does not understand the new MB-aligned partitions, it will destroy them in a vain attempt to "fix" what it incorrectly thinks is an error, and you will end up with an unbootable system.

True dat^
But shouldn't newer partition programs be able to do both methods?

Newer ones, yes. Quality programs like BootIt-NG and Acronis Disk Director have been updated to be aware of MB-aligned partitions.

But Partition Magic seems to be basically abandoned by Symantec, so don't hold your breath for an update. PM was excellent in its day, but hasn't been kept up with the times.
