Asus VS. Acer 14" notebook

Thread Starter
Hello,

I have been looking for a new 13-14 "laptop, and have looked at:

Asus UL30vt (cost 680$ / 540 Euro in Denmark)
http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=57XDSj2LxRg41F0d

and

Acer AS3810TG (cost 890$ / 700 Euro in Denmark)
http://www.oyyy.co.uk/product.php/96838/acer-aspire-timeline-3810tg-94/?utm_source=WebGai&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=feed&utm_source=WebGai?utm_source= AffFut

I have heard much talk about that Acer is made of poor quality and often break down. On the other hand, I heard that Asus' UL series has problems with creaking sounds.

The two computers I link to have very similar specs and I will therefore ask about whether it afortable to pay the extra 205$/160 Euro for the Asus rather then the Acer.

I hope there are some that can help

Thanks in advance, and sorry for my English..

Asus has a longer standard warranty (2 years compared to 1 year for the Acer) and the processor on the UL30Vt is overclocked by default so it can go up to 1.7 Ghz (compared to the standard 1.3 Ghz or the Acer's 1.4 Ghz). The video card in the Asus seem to be slightly better than the one in the Acer, although not by much.

It is up to you if these factors and the Asus reputation are worth the extra money.

They're both good notebooks and neither are likely to become outdated anytime soon. I say look at it like a long-term investment; if you spend a little more and get the Asus you'll end up getting a faster processor and a system that's likely to last longer.

Keep in mind that there are factors other than performance too. The Asus looks more durable than the cheaper Acer, and the Macbook style keyboard is going to be much more comfortable if you use it for documents and data entry tasks.
