7200 RPM vs. Dedicated Graphics for photoshop CS5

Hi all,
I need help to decide which notebook to buy. My choice is between

1) Compaq CQ62-106TU -- i5 -430M/4 GB DDR3/500 Gb 7200 RPM/Intel HD Graphics --- Price INR. 39,500.00 ($ 878)

2) Acer Aspire 5740G -- i5 -430M /4 GB DDR3/500 Gb 5400 RPM/ 1 GB ATI 5650 or 5470 --- Price INR. 42,000.00 ($ 934)

One has 7200 RPM HDD and integrated HD graphics and the other has 5400 RPM HDD and 1 GB dedicated graphics.

My main use would be heavy Photoshop CS5 with multiple layers + coreldraw/Illustrator simultaneously. Then multimedia including viewing HD AVC/VC1 through HDMI and occasional games.

What kinda games are you looking to play?

Do both come with a 64bit operating system? If you want to play games, ie Sims level and above, dedicated video is a must...

Games or not, CS5 would do well with a dedicated GPU There is not so much difference between 5400 and 7200 rpm in SATA environment.

cheers ...

Thanks all. Not very graphics intensive games right now...

Acer (ATI Gfx Dedicated, 5400RPM) -- Win 7 Home Premium 64, Compaq (Intel HD integrated, 7200RPM) -- Win 7 Professional 32.

I want to upgrade to Win 7 Professional 64, that I can do better with Acer (Although for some strange reason Microsoft does not allow "Anytime Upgrade" in India!)

Its reassuring to know there wont be much performance hit with 5400 RPM.

Thanks again.

Sure that this is Microsoft doing and not ACER?

One big thing is that you should realize is that most notebook dedicated or integrated graphics are NOT upgradeable easily or at all, while a notebook's hard drive is easily upgradeable from 5400rpm to 7200rpm and so on.

Most assemblies just required taking off a few screws. I would recommend the computer with the dedicated GPU no matter what.

Thanks for the suggestions everybody. I am going for ACER - the one with Dedicated GPU.

qhn : Sorry for my mistake. Microsoft does allow "Anytime Upgrade" -- But we have to buy the key from a retail store, online purchase is not possible in India.

Good luck. Hopefully you'll find a good local store for the upgrade.
