Gateway M255-E processor

Thread Starter
To make a long story short as possible....I am working on a friends M255-E laptop and a local repair shop swapped out the CPU a few months back for a 478 Celeron that does not work. This laptop takes a 479 CPU the socket even says mPGA479m and is only missing one pin in the very corner. They stuck in a 478 thinking no one would notice I guess.. Anyway now I am needing to know what CPU will work in this laptop to fix it. I know a 479 Solo or Dual Core. The problem is I see alot of CPUs out there for sale that claim to be a 479 but the pin outs are diferent from my slot. I have tried to use other CPUs from other laptops that CPU-Z claims is a 479 but it always turns out the socket is mPGA478m...I am really confused as to why. Did the core2 come in 478 and 479 pin. Does anyone know excatly what CPU will work in this laptop? What I mean by that is the CPU number not just the speed. The real part number like SL9SE etc... Sorry such a long post....Thanks

I read that this model comes with (core 2 duo) T5600 and T7200 - for sure.
