Sony Vgn A190 upgrading questions

My mom is giving me her old Vgn A190 because she's getting a new laptop and I want to upgrade the ram and hard drive.

But I have extremely little knowledge when it comes to laptop hard drives and memory.

Is there a particular hard drive that it will only take or can I buy a 500gb Hitachi 2.5" notebook hard drive from newegg.com and it will work perfectly fine, (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822145307

Or will it blow the laptop up because of the amount of space on the hard drive?

Same with memory.

So basically what I'm asking is what is how big of a hard drive can it handle, how much memory will it support, and finally what should I buy for it?

Thanks-
Max

Oh also I'm looking for a replacement keyboard but all the ones I find seem ridiculously over priced. Anyone know where I can find one that doesn't cost my first born child and a fatted calf?

1. That is a good old machine that will last you many more years. Don't forget to thank your Mom

2. Max ram is 2GB PC2700 (2 x 1GB). Can be expensive with the 1GB module and not easy to find.

3. IDE controller so I personally would not put more than 120GB into it. Best is to get a 7200RPM drive if you can get your hand on it.

4. Search for Sony 17" A series keyboard, you might get away with a used one without signing your life away.

cheers ...

Thanks.

Bit of a side question on the hard drive though. I was searching ebay for parts and there were 320gb hard drive and it specified that it was compatible with the vgn-a190. So is the seller misinformed or would it be able to handle a 320gb?

I read about those 320GB being "compatible" withe A190 Could be. But as I mentioned above, IDE controller and chipset on this model can usually access 120-140GB. Or must I say "see" 120-140GB. One can probably install a 320GB drive in there but one might need to partition it.

cheers ...
