hi,

My xps 1710 with 7950 gtx (4gb ram) (100gb hdd) cant cope with battlefield 2 bad company 2 as am getting as like average 15 fps. Got drivers from dell that were updated 2 years back.

BF2 BC2 is set on lowest resolution with all setting at LOW!

What can I do to make this game play on this good fast laptop please.

thanks

The m1710 as you have there is pretty much maxed,

there is no faster GPU option, you maybe able to upgrade your CPU which would help a little but games are more GPU driven.

The fastest CPU is the T7600G.

4 GB is the max memory,

Bottom line it's time for a faster laptop

You can overclock your gpu, there's plenty of threads about it.

However the highest I could POSSIBLY get it is 700mhz core 900mhz mem, and it had to be under 65C temp in order to not crash. I'm still trying to find out how to overvolt it to get more out of it.

I might be getting a 3600m this summer = 8800mgtx, I'll make a guide once I get it done, so you can have a class 1 card in your inspiron and THEN bf2bc might be better.

Overclocking the gpu would help short term tho a little.

Hi, installed NBF Mobile Force driver (NBF_MobileForce_XP_190.38.exe) and PhysX_9.09.0428_SystemSoftware.exe. Now Battlefield 2 BC2 starts up, choose a server but when it loads then it always throws me back to desktop. Whats going on??!?!??!! is there a patch pls. thanks

It has been recommended that PhysX be disabled in this instance in another thread.

Ouch. 2 years old comp, when was the last time you took it apart and do some internal cleaning? Maybe applying new thermal paste?

cheers ...

wow do you think physical cleaning will help? I dont know how to? is there a guide please? ta

We have many guides in the Guide Section. Thorough cleaning is good for extending the life of the notebooks and keeping performance in par, at least once a year (or 2).

And yes, in your case, I would try the cleaning up first. Clogged up vents cause heat, and heat pushes down performance.

I cant find a guide for the xps 1710 in teh Guide section. Are you sure there is a guide for my computer at all? ta

You can get the service manual/disassembly of your model from Dell Support Site. NBF guides section will give you personal hints and tips from members that have experienced the cleaning up and the applying of new thermal paste.

thanks will look in to it. I'll dust the funs and internals. but will changing thermal paste be necessary? if so why? ta

Thermal paste does "dry" out, thus losing the ability to conduct heat into the heatsink for dissipation - a must-do

Take it easy with the removal steps, and post if you have any questions.

WHATS THE best thermal paste on the market now?

I use and prefer IC Diamond 7, many like OC-X, others like AS5 ... take your pick

And one dab is ALL it takes.
