Why won't my Displayport to DVI adapter work?

I bought a Displayport to DVI adapter so I would have a dual monitor setup at my second office until I buy another of those E docking stations. But nothing's happening! It's a passive adapter, but I thought that should give me picture on a DVI. This is the one I bought:

I even tried with a DVI to VGA dongle on top of that, but I still can't get it to work. Am I flogging a stone dead horse, or should this be possible?

You need to check and be sure that the DVI output corresponds to what your monitor can support. This is what you need, I think.

OK, thanks. That's far too expensive, I'll instead have to wait until I get the docking station I'm ordering from the US to use at my second office. I thought the passive thing was a quick fix. I guess I was wrong. Btw I don't think the format is the problem, the second monitor isn't even detectable by the M6500, it doesn't see that there is anything connected there.

Detection goes both way. If cable does not work, nothing can be seen from either sides.

I use this adapter/converter for many of my external connection needs. You can find some real cheap on the net.

Maybe it's also because this monitor is a few years old, so it doesn't have DHCP? I'm going to test this with one of my newer monitors at home. I have a Toshiba docking station that gives DVI out from USB2, but it's not fast enough for my use. It's OK if you're only having a document or something on the second monitor, but I need to have fullscreen live video there without any judder, and that doesn't work. USB2 just isn't fast enough. I'll better speed up those dockings I'm getting! Priority is probably in order, instead of regular shipping.

You'll be surprised how that little USB2 performs. I was skeptical of it at the beginning myself. I watch HD media from my notebooks to HDTV (via HDMI) with no signal losses.

Has to be something completely different than the DisplayLink adapter that Toshiba uses in their Dynadock DVI, because that's not able to show 1920x1080 video without slowdowns.

Yep, it's something about the older monitors at my second office. Plugging the thing into the monitor at homne works. So I guess this is a case of no HDCP on the older monitors. But why does the FireGL demand HDCP even when I'm only showing the desktop?

I'll open a new thread about that.
