Hi Everyone,
I'm troubleshooting a display problem on a friend's HP DV9000 Entertainment PC laptop, and I'm wondering if anyone could help me here.
The display quit suddenly to a black screen when he was using the laptop, and once in a while it will start up normally on a cold boot. After a while, the display becomes distorted, and again goes to a black, blank screen. If left on, the power led cycles on and off, and the fan starts and quits. This repeats itself over and over. I'm trying to determine if this is a mobo problem, or if indeed it is a faulty screen, which needs replacing. I connected an external monitor which also, goes blank when the laptop screen quits, so I'm assuming that I cannot try to boot the laptop with only the external monitor connected?? Will this laptop keep cycling on and off, and the fan start up, then quit if it's a faulty screen. I feel that the power led and the fan and harddrive will all stay on even if it's a faulty screen, but I need verification on this assumption.
I don't want to order a new replacement screen if the problem is not with the screen, but may instead be a mobo startup problem.
I appreciate any help or advice you guys can give me.
Thanks!
Larry G.
