I did a search. I need to know whether my Dell M1210 will run Windows 7 Ultimate? I want to give mine to my sister.

Is it a dual core, or Pentium M?

Just Pentium M, I think. It is in my truck. I do not want to go out to it.

OK, in that case it will be able to handle 32-bit Windows 7.

My m5500 has a 2.0 Pentium M, and I was able to get 32-bit Win 7 to install just fine.

Go for it Larry. It will run W7 Ultimate, use the 32-bit as MB mentioned.

cheers ...

Do you know of a laptop of the same size with USB 3?

How much?

You are sure you want to go with USB3.0 now? It is good on paper but as far as performance it is not likely to surpass current eSATA port. Simply reason is that the internals are not quite there to take full advantage of the new USB technology, and a few bottlenecks are present in the form of slower drive and system bus.

... so far I only see notebooks with 15" or larger in screen size come with USB 3.0 (HP Envy and Asus N6 series)

No, I am not sure yet. I may wait for the next version of the Ipad. Maybe not even a computer.

Tablet is the way to go at the moment I believe. Just something that consumers find a new way to be connected.

From what I have read the USb 3 ports have been meeting or exceeding that speeds of E-sata, and are far more easier to use.

Of course the main advantage is the speed increase, but the higher buss power is also a bonus

I am not arguing about USB3.0 specs and performance - it is the way to go on desktops at the moment. My remark rests by notebooks which in its current form will not take advantage of the USB3.0 performance, not just yet.

Guess I could get a smart card usb3.0 port for my inspiron... thats pci-express x1, but does that translate into equal speeds as actual usb3.0? aka is the smart card gonna be a bottleneck?
The PCI-express X1 card adapter can deliver/handle speed "up" to 250MB/s so yes, I would say that is a bottleneck, not so bad as other parts inside the notebook. Now it would be interesting if manufacturers "open" up ALL ports to handle 1000MB/s like a NIC interface - then USB/PCI etc ... are only served as adapters to peripheral devices.

cheers ...
