Intel formally announced the arrival of Core i5-655K and Core i7-875K.

Both are based on socket LGA 1156, therefore have the distinction of possessing an unlocked multiplier, a feature hitherto reserved for expensive Extreme Edition.

The Intel Core i7-875K is a 45nm Lynnfield, packed with 4 cores and 8 threads with HyperThreading. It runs at 2.93 GHz and 3.60 GHz can be reached through the Turbo Boost. It has 8 MB of L3 cache, memory controller operates a supporting DDR3-1333 dual channel with a TDP of 95 watts. This model is priced at $342 much cheaper than the i7-870 ($562).

The Intel Core i5-655K is a dual core (quad thread) etched into 32 nm. It is clocked at 3.2 GHz (3.46 GHz with Turbo Boost) and has 4 MB of L3 cache. Its memory controller is identical to that of Core i7-800 and its TDP peaks at 73 watts. The processor also features an on-board Intel HD graphics solution. The CPU is priced at $216 where his alter ego (Core i5-650) costs only $176. Funny pricing strategy comparing with the i7-875K above.
