Thread Starter
Hi Guys,
Just received my Aspire 5410 back from repair under warranty (wireless and sound hardware fault). I now have a problem with the keyboard, the letter keys are OK but when I press the "zero" key I get 0= when I press "equals" I get 0= when I press "close brackets" I get )+ "open brackets" ( is OK.
Anyone had a similar problem? Any ideas or am I just going to have to send it back again.
Thanks,
Charles

It's a pain - but I recommend that you send it back.

looks like they didnt seat the keyboard properly..I agree with Qhn and it should be on their dime too

You could reseat the keyboard yourself, on that model its easy, just take the battery out and look for any small screws underneath... If there are any (2 or 3) take them out with a small Philips screw driver.. Also look for a screw in the centre of the laptop (if I remember correctly) which holds the keyboard in.. Flip the laptop over and put the screen as far back as possible, then from right to left lift the plastic between the keyboard and screen, and yes it is in tight... This exposes the top of the keyboard which should be held in by two screws, take them out and gently lift it out... (careful it is attached by a thin ribbon cable)... Look at the connector on the motherboard the keyboard cable goes to, should see two brown tabs either end (very small) - gently push them forward to release the keyboard cable... Make sure the cable is clean, not torn or badly kinked where it shouldn't be, check all the keys and give it a clean brush out - if it is damaged send it back... Put it back in reverse order... It'll take you about 20 minutes tops, most time taken is lifting the plastic cover off (again which is tight so don't force it).....

Keyboard replacement can be easy, and very tricky at the same time. One can run into the issue of either breaking the clip or tearing off the ribbon cable

I recommended it to be sent back due to the fact that it has just been repaired under warranty of wireless and hardware sound, meaning it can be something else related to the area of the keyboard.

I agree with qhn, if it wasnt under warranty or you didnt care, then Mr T's advice would be great...just make sure you call/email Acer with the previous work order number and explain your problem so they know its their fault and can they can pick up the shipping charges to get it fixed properly
