| Toshiba adds to ultra-thin laptop line 06.01.2010 Toshiba’s big computing news at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this year includes the addition of two new ultra-thin laptops to the existing T100 series, both weighing less than four pounds and coming in at less than 1 inch thick. The Satellite T135D and T115D have the usual Toshiba extras, including the USB sleep and charge functionality and hard-drive impact sensor, but also have new face-recognition abilities in the embedded webcam for easier log in. Running on Windows 7, the T125D has a 13.3-inch widescreen HD LED backlit screen, up to 320GB HDD and up to 4GB RAM while the T115D has an 11.6-inch screen, 250GB in storage and 2GB of RAM. Battery life is up to six hours, 13 minutes on the 13.3-inch model and the smaller model has a 5.5-hour battery. All new T100 series laptops will ship with the recently announced Toshiba Media Controller software, a new application that makes for easier content sharing across the home network. “The emergence of the low-cost ultra-thin category has quickly proven that consumers do not need to give up performance for mobility,” said Carl Pinto, vice-president of product development, Toshiba America, digital products division. “The Satellite T100 series provide the right blend of features with the right form factor to meet a broad set of computing needs.” The Satellite T135D will retail from US$599.99 and the Satellite T115D is priced from US$449.99 and will be available in the US from 17 January with no European release date announced so far. |
