I am so mad.

Blah. I could have gotten an 8886 fully loaded from PCTorque yesterday (because I finally got an offer from someone to buy my current laptop). BUT NO. My parents are of the old style persuasion that says we won't buy anything that expensive unless we pay at the same time that we get the merchandise. Yeah, I understand that there's a ton of fraud out there, etc etc. But it still makes me mad because it wouldn't have cost that much more than my current laptop and I could have done so much more with it. I wish PCTorque was in southeast Ohio, lol. I don't suppose PCTorque would possibly be on a road trip through Ohio in the next week... Blah. Even paying with a credit card is a no no for them because it would be too much of a headache if this whole thing was a fraud. There's nothing I can do to convince them otherwise. Too bad they don't know anything about computers... they have no idea how sweet an 8886 is. Oh well, just thought I'd share my frustration with fellow sager people.

too bad. No offense but your parents are a bit too paranoid

I've bought virtually everything I own online. I've never had a problem and I'm usually not even worried about it if I do. If there ever was some type of fraud believe me your credit card company will hunt them down like dogs. I've purchased everything from cds/dvds, audio video gear, and even a brand new car online I save a ton of money, a ton of cash and I can just sit on my ass while I do the shopping

this is 10+ years of cybershopping

Agreed, they are paranoid, but we've been screwed before and so they've pretty much decided to avoid the "headache" altogether. I wish that wasn't the case, but there is little I can do about it. Sending out over $2000 to someone we haven't seen or met or anything... it is a scary thought on some level. It's just that you can't find sagers at stores like Best Buy because they're for power users and not many people are of that type.

You don't get screwed when buying from reputable companies.

Yeah, but up until a month ago I had never heard of Sager. My parents still haven't, lol. A reputation can be manufactured nowadays. I agree with you 100%, but I'm just saying what my parents' mindset is... and showing how ridiculous it is. But still, it's not something easily remedied.

I too have bought most of my belongings, especially electronics, online. Never had a problem. In fact, the only times I ever experienced credit card fraud etc... is by merchants (especially restaurants) stealing my card info.

Besides, I use American Express and they guarantee against fraud. I didn't just read the fine print and restate it here. I actually experienced fraud using their card and they always removed the charges without much explanation from me. With a good credit card and careful selection of online merchants, you should have no problems.

That's not being paranoid. Ask a lot of old people and they will say the same thing.
