M11X R2 available for order overseas-

Well the rumors are true- There's a refresh to the M11X with the addition of the Core i3/i5/i7 processors, and it's available on overseas Dell sites.

They only offer core-i5 520UM and core-i7 640UM in configuration here in Germany. Interesting that both of these processors are set at 1.06GHz clock speed.

Another interesting note is that the 2-weeks old resale value drops a whopping 30% comparing to the retail price

They're on the US site now too.

Showing in Malaysia but only with i3 and hardly any config choices. As before they include other upgrades (like bluetooth) but not alienguise and soft-touch covering

Nearly MYR4,000 and no i5/i7 !

Interesting to see so many different configuration offers - or the lack of it - across the world. I am inclined to believe that this (particular model) is due to parts availability.

That was FAST! Dell Malaysia now has most options... even i7 listed. Total for my setup with i7 is RM4670 or roughly 600 more - but this is without the Dell branded DVD drive mine was bundled with.

Is this i7 having the same 1.06GHz or better?

cheers ...

Ok, now make it available in the States

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-640UM Processor(1.20Ghz, 4 Threads, turbo boost up to 2.26GHz, 4M cache) [Included in Price]

I feel a LITTLE better now... rumor is this system loses the VGA port (I still use sometimes).

I feel a LITTLE worse too... it means no easy board swaps later to upgrade.

Still feel "ok" since its an extra grand to move up and frankly it wasnt THAT easy to get what I have and I am still begging to upgrade the warranty.

Is that 1.2 so much better? To get 2.26 it drops to "single" mode right?
That 1.2GHz is much better for sure. I see no reason to get a core-i option if the speed is the same as the original unit, oc or not.

I would be interested in the BIOS set up of this m11x with the core-i configuration

Soft touch black?

Does anyone know what soft touch black means for one of the color options?
I just got my M11x two weeks ago, and I am loving it. I am not bummed out by this upgrade as I would not have been able to afford it. I also have the benefit of having two months or more of extra use over all thsoe who are now waiting until July/August. Plus the newer more powerful ones may not have the battery and cooling benfits that mine do. Oh and mine works, the new ones may have problems, you know the old saying, "a bird in hand..."

The same thing happened last year for the M17x, though it was 8 months later for R2 not 4. I was kinda bummed but realized how fantastic mine was and lal the use I got from it for over half a year, so the trade off was fine.

Since I purchased my first laptop in 1993, there have always been upgrades, sometimes with in a few months and many people get sad or mad or sell their relatively new one for the R2 but what is the point, I ask you? I mean eventually you will get a new computer so why not enjoy the one you have especially if it is performing so well, as mine have

You have to ask the manufacturer for the correct definition of the colors it offers Fancy names for advertissment I believe.

About enjoying the ones that one currently has - I think we all do, just the urge of having something new in hands can be hard to resist sometimes

According to others this soft touch is like the ones on larger AW models. Less finger prints! Yay!

Though I won't buy a new M11X, the thought of having one that's less prone to fingerprints is a good idea.

Fingerprints bother you?

Why do fingerprints bother you all so much. It is not very difficult to wipe them off or hold this light and beautiful laptop wihtout touching the top....

True, it's not that difficult wiping the fingerprints off but doing it constantly especially when using it in public places can be a bit annoying. It's not just the lid that gets fingerprints- it's the front and sides as well. Other than that, I absolutely love this laptop. I am more than happy with it and very glad I decided to purchase the original version.

While I would like to think that the extra 1k (MYR) would be easy to justify, it isn't. That said, I'm happy for those purchasing now as they should find these changes a nice update. Most of the changes anyway.

Note though that the non US based Dell purchases do not have the same return policy (or didn't). The support is certainly different so I find it odd they didnt start with US market.

Guess I just have to live with the "sour grapes" I have now. <wink>
