Epilogue
So I get home from my fiance's house this morning... and my laptop screen is all black. From my understanding, this means (with a high likelihood) that the backlight has failed. I can still remote in, and the system still reboots and functions. The screen just never lights up. Now I ordered this laptop on Febuary 19, 2005... and as sad as it makes me, I don't think she's got another rebuild in her....

Prologue
So a new journey begins. I'm a man who likes his gadgets, and my laptop has always been 'my betty'. Technically, I'm going to have to change that now that I'm engaged (incidentally, the timing of this laptop dying may have been it being depressed as it became my mistress instead of my steady), but that doesn't mean my new one has to suck. I'm a man who is hard on his hardware, but not a gamer, some things that are of interest to me in my new system:
Yeah, that's a very simple list. The NOT ATI part is a long standing grudge that I will never trust a company that made the ALL-IN-WONDER 128. The full HD thing is just me liking my real estate. I do a lot of coding, so 768 (or even 900) lines of vertical doesn't cut it.
Chapter 1
Now that I've assessed my essentials, it's time to find some suspects. First, I'll hit my normal sources:
All seem to fit the bill. I'd prefer to support intel and get a 4500 series GPU, but noone seems to bundle that with a quad core... pity. I believe I've found enough to set a baseline of values and what I points value over others...

- full hd compatibleish (at least 1080 lines vertical)
- NOT ATI
