I actually ordered one of these (8003lmi model) from CDW last thursday and got it on friday. I had a chance to test it out over the weekend. It is a GREAT laptop except for the SXGA screen i thought kinda sucked....It was ok when you are looking right at the screen, but like kevhuynh said earlier, acer stuck with the same LCD they used in past models, and it sufferes from the same Angle viewing problem as a lot of othe SXGA screens. It's not as bad as some SXGA screens i've seen, but you have to be looking at the right angle at the screen to get a good picture qaulity...also the backlight is a little bright, so the color vibrance and contast isn't too good......
HOWEVER, everything else on the laptop rocks! Excellent build quality, good performance (was able to run far cry, UT2004, etc...)....Like the Compal/Chembook the M11 (radeon mobility 9700) is clocked low at 400/200 approx. I was able to overclock it and get a 3dmark2003 score of 3250.
The machine is VERY QUIET, and the left palmrest does heat up a little bit (from the hard drive), but it only gets warm at best (not hot by any means).
It is a THIN sucker, comparable to a Thinkpad T40/T41 notebook), and the weight is pretty good considering it's a 15" LCD notebook.
All in all, it's the best Pentium-M with a Mobility Radeon 9600 or 9700 i've seen yet....however because of the mediocre LCD, i would not recommend it for gaming)....too bad they don't offer a 8000 series Travelmate with a UXGA screen ...maybe a future Dothan model will....we will have to just wait and see.
