I hate Dell!!!

Thanks Dave.

I asked the tech 3 times yesterday and he said I reassure you it is the correct video card. Argggh!!! Dell sucks!!!

I called CS today and they transferred me over to tech support again, this time it takes the tech 40 mins to tell me the wrong card was ordered! No $hit! Then he goes on to tell me he can not sell me another. I asked why and he tells me I would not be able to install it myself! Why the hell not?!

I hate dell!

I called CS to cancel the order and they tell me it already shipped! The tech told me 10 mins ago it did not, so now they are lying too! What the heck is going on over there at Dell?

I asked to speak with a manager and then put me on hold again and leave me there. Is any one person competent at Dell anymore?

I did my best not to get upset but this is absolutely ridiculous! I have a heart condition and am waiting for my defibrillator to shock me from all the stress these idiots have caused!

Sue them

Sorry about the mess you are going through, just be patient with Dell Support, that's all I can recommend.

cheers ...

Try ONline Chat with Support they may have better people

also check your build config for the M1730 and get the part number for the GPU assy. ( of course that will be the 8700s)

If your not under warranty they should sell you the card providing they have any in stock. It maybe they don't have stock and are just BSing you.

But try the online Chat - people seem to have much better luck

I do see 8800 cards being sold on Ebay - Seller says it is new, and it looks like it is.

XM888 = 8800 Cards

K650M = 9800 Cards

RW331 = 8700 Cards

Thanks so much guys. I really do appreciate all the help and support you are giving to me.

I figured to give myself a rest and will have a go at Dell again Tomorrow.

I checked ebay too, and the card does look new. I just wanted to play it safe and get a warranty with a new card but it doesn't look like that may work out through Dell.

Dave where did you find the part numbers? I even checked Dell spare parts and could find nothing. Thank you!

Is there anyway I can acess my files on the 1730... just to save them to the external HD? Anything anyone may think of?

Thanks again.

I'm looking to salvage what I can.

Okay, so I got brave tonight and decided it was time to try and bake this baby! LMAO. With my sister screaming at me! LOL

Now I am stuck. Help!

I have the duel SLI 8700's - and I can't find any info on how to take the card apart. it's big and after hours, I finally figured out how to get the fans off! But on the other side is black sticky paper? Do I peal this off? I started then stopped seeing all the glue! So now I am freaking but I figure it's okay. LOL It's broke to begin with and I realized like you all said, I have nothing to lose!

My life - after my sister kills me! Hahaha

So do I have to take off the square mental plates with the star shaped screws. Alan keys or something of the sort I am thinking.

Can anyone help me get through this please. Or give me a link, step by step. Thanks.

Also for my first time, it wasn't so bad taking the laptop apart. Thank god for directions though!

Thank you all!

Dell Support has a good service manual for your model. And yes I believe that you have to take out the plate. The card must be (preferably) on its own when you "bake"

Try to strip down the GPU to just the cards, any tape, metal etc comes off if it can.

Of course any thermal pads, thermal paste will have to be replaced.

You maybe able to re-use the thermal pads if your careful removing them. but if you can get new ones do that.

Okay, this Thermal paste thing is crazy and with all the pulling and tugging I had to do, well... if the card wasn't broke to badly, it is now!

Thanks for the help with all of this, really. You guys are the best.

I received my order today and had to laugh. Even the box dell sent me is all messed up! I even took pictures for them to see. It is taped wrong, ripped and the box is oversized so badly it flaps over on both ends.

I don't know what is happening over there at Dell but I think they may have lost a customer!

I place an order for one item and they couldn't even get it right... and round and round I go. I called again today and after 3 hrs of the run around, someone finally get CS on the line and explains the story and don't you know she leaves me in his hands and he hangs up!

So I am done! Cooked, probably like my card!

I asked to have the case escalated and even wrote a letter to Customer care, as if they will ever help me.

I am still stunned this is all over ordering 1 video card! God forbid, I actually wanted to order a PC! I can only imagine what would happen!

So any other place I may be able to get a cheap, yet new video card. I am not using the system for gaming, so just to have it up and running again would be great!

Or, is there a way for me to get my files off the HD? I can then transfer them to my new... APPLE!

Remove the hard drive and place it in an external USB housing.

Ebay maybe your best hope,

just make sure the seller has good feedabck ,and have them confirm the card is indeed a New card not a Baked card.

Okay, so day 4 with Dell! I was transferred all over the place then finally got a manager, and he sent me back over to CS, so I could get a refund after they get their GPU back, 10 to 14 days. Dell is ridicious!!!

Anyway I asked the XPS Premium manager if he could find the correct video card for me and he said absolutely! Ready...

His name was Ryan, and he told me he can not order me another card because I am our of warranty! Then he went on to explain if I repurchase a warranty plan, then he could sell me a new card, but then he went on to say I can not replace it myself, he would have to send a tech out to do it for me because it is very dangerous!

What the hell is going on over there at Dell?!!! I am ready to report them to the BBB! I have had it and all of this because of a video card. I still can't believe it!

Anyway I asked the manager to escalate my case and he said he would give it to his supervisor. He was very nice but not helpful at all. He explained to me he has no authority and can not help me because I am out of warranty.

I am completely exhausted, mentally and physically with Dell. They make my head spin but I am angry now and feel a need to tell someone over there what the heck is going on!

Does anyone have a name or number for the escalation dept??? I tried and e-mail one of the Dell techs I worked with in the past but he is not answering now either.

Thank for all your help guys! You're the best. I wish I could buy a new card and get a warranty with it. Any ideas please let me know and in the mean time I will keep my eye on ebay.

You are in for a long haul with Dell CSI, Woodstock here spent months before he got his issues resolved (barely). Just be patient and don't stress out - ain't worth it.

Yes, I think you are correct!

I just got off the phone with Dell again... Day 5. After being transferred 3 times a sale rep finally helps. Sort of. LOL He found an 8700 sli for $700.00

Then he went on to say, "Let me see if I can find you something cheaper," and disconnects the call.

Not a minute passed and the phone rang. It was Dell Executive dept. They received my compliant. I was actually surprised! But I am not getting my hopes up here, we are talking about Dell.

Anyway she gave me her info and she told me she had to talk to XPS tech support and would get back to me on Monday.

I hope she can help.

I will let you know what happens and how it goes. I am amazed at how dell can sell us a product and then not have the parts we need to fix it! The sales guy told me to check online for video graphic cards stores! Leave it to dell!

Well at least you are moving forward. Good luck CSI

Okay, I need a little advice please. The resolution dept called me and told me if I sent my system to the depot they would install the refurbished video card for $200.00

I am worried about sending them my system. My sister sent hers a while back and they erased the HD and she lost all her information. I asked them to just mail me the new video card and the rep said, then I would have to pay $700.00 for it.

Should I give this a try? Hmm

Keep the hard drive if you send the unit in
