Acer Aspire 5517-5689 Lag

I purchased this labtop a few weeks ago and I have been experiencing a lot of lag. The problem occurs when I'm typing something into a program like Visual Studio and for no reason the keyboard/mouse become unresponsive for about 5 seconds, then I hear the fans kick in and it loads what I was just typing. I performed a system restore, but no luck in fixing the problem. Any ideas?

I would review background processes and disable whatever that is not needed. Also reviewing Anti-Virus settings (use another one with smaller footprint per example)

I guess I should clarify that the system restore was Acer's reset back to factory settings including reinstalling the operating system. From that point I still experience the lag. Unless you think that Acer would ship a product that lagged like that, I don't really think it has anything to do with software.

Most of the lagging that I experienced are the result of unneeded start-up processes and antivirus software. Disk indexing can also be a cause for slowing down. This is where I would look first before blaming hardware issues.

All notebooks coming fresh out from the sales floor are loaded with unnecessary apps and utilities, not just Acer.

Please check you processor

did you check what kind of processor you have installed (in the BIOS)?

Do you really have the TF-20 AMD or do you also have the AMD TF-36 processor installed. ACER started installing TF-36 processors for TF-20, but let the package label stand to read TF-20 processor

Please let me know ray@boxedcpu.com

I have the TF-36. My issue was resolved when I installed a retail copy of windows 7 (one without all the acer preinstalled software).
