From what I understand this is the same "3d" that they use on mag covers and such. I am interested to see how it works but fear that most of the games are going to look horrible or claim to be 3D instead of having a good story.

well because it simply isn't going to work for some people, and may cause other people to start getting headaches and such, from some comments from devs about the programming guidelines say the 3D effect is supposed to be simply an added effect to enhance gameplay and not a gimmic that the game must hinge on (there's a slider to adjust the depth of the field, or turn it off altogether).

Gotcha, are the giving it more horsepower or are they still using the CPU/GPU?
Its going to be another gimmick. Nintendo lives off them now. Expect almost all mediocre to bad games with a few hidden gems mixed in that do little to nothing with the selling gimmick.

oh hell a lot of more horsepower. Was originally stated to be using a Tegra but doesn't seem to be that anymore tho from latest comments from developers. but a number of devs have said it produces graphics comparable to the 360 or PS3, meaning its some sort of OpenGL ES 2.0 chip
post #7 of 28
That is what I am thinking. The touch screen really didn't add anything to the games that I liked, and the second screen was nice for inventory/maps but other then that a waste of space. Then again they sell hand over fist so nintendo is doing something right.

Well that is good news. I would like to see something on the same power level as the PSP.
If its graphics comparable to the 360 or PS3 its going to be a lot more power than a PSP Its also going to have a lot more punch than the Wii ironically.
It cant be unless they have figured out how to make a 1080p screen that is under 4 inches.

talking render quality comparable, so hardware features, pixel depth render a DX11 image at 640x480 and its going to look better than a say DX7 image at 640x480

but yah as TV said, going to be better than the PSP (which is good 6 year old technology), and several of the devs themsevles have commented that its more powerful than the Wii mobile graphics technology has jumped LIGHT YEARS since the original DS and PSP release
post #12 of 28

Well I should hope so. I am curious to see what the new games look like. The PSP is getting long in the tooth and the PSP GO just pissed me off.

thats what they showed on their E3 media site. not bad for launch work, really pushing a systems capability graphics-wise doesnt usually happen until a coupe years after a systems been out and they have had time to experiment and feel it out. as is it appears to me that they haven't yet figured out how to agressively AA with the 3D aspect figured in yet

the RE screens out of that are probly the best showing. they aren't pre-rendered, they are all realtime

Wow, that is awesome. Its sad to see that Nintendo has a more powerfull hand held then their current console....

Are you really gonna buy this for $250+
No, but I will look at it. When the price comes down I may get two on for each kid. I am telling you there is nothing like driving with 2 kids going crazy in the back seat.
And the 3DS will shut up them? or make them go crazier?
Give them something to do. Besides distract me while I am driving.

there's no official price yet, but despite the analyst guesses I don't think it will be $250 or higher, thats too high for Nintendo to be comfortable launching a handheld. $200 would be my guess.

EDIT: remember, analyists overestimated the DS launch as well, guessing from $175-200+. it launched at $150

A major market analyst claims the 3DS could end up costing as much as $250-$300 dollars.

Nintendo said they won't sell it for a loss, the original DS debuted at $150, the PSP at $200 .. expect this to be a expensive handheld with 3D and GameCube graphics.
