which is better, or more common; sata or ata? from what i have done and read, it sounds like the sata is the more efficent way to go, although it only does byte by byte at a time. The link i was just looking at was here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010150380%201309721216&bop=And&CompareItemList=3 80|22-136-373^22-136-373-TS%2C22-136-130^22-136-130-S01

SATA is the newer technology. Faster transfer speeds, even hot swappable. You need to first make sure your notebook is capable of using SATA. Most notebooks that come stock with ATA are not equipped for SATA.
