M6400 Upgrade from WXGA to WUXSGA

Hi there,

I received as a gift from a guy I do some work for a M6400 with a WXGA laptop. It was ordered off the Dell refurb list and we thought it came with the hi-res monitor.

What is entailed in swapping that screen out for a WUXSGA like this one:

If it's a big deal I'm going to send it back, but if it's fairly trivial I'll keep it. I've taken multiple laptops apart before so that isn't an issue.

Thanks

chris

It's a 20 minutes job to swap out the LCD. Have fun. You might need a new inverter to go with the screen. Taking apart guide is available on Dell's Support Site.

if your screen is dark or the brightness not working correctly then you need a matching inverter

OMG. This display is awesome. Bought this display

Two BIG thumbs up. Sorry I didn't document the swap, but it's stupid simple. Remove two screws lift the bezel off. Unscrew about 8 screw lift off the screen. The hardest part is the connector. Comes off easily but is a bit finicky to plug back in.

The whole process took about 10 minutes. Seriously.

Thanks to all who responded.

I'm not complainin'!

It's a sweet display, nice color, nary a dead pixel. Highly recommended.
