M17x AC Supply not the recommended detected??

Hi,

I don't know if this is a issue anyone else has but every time I unplug my ac supply from the back of the notebook and replug the cord and turn on the system,I get a "WARNING:AC SUPPLY DETECTED THAT IS LESS THAN THE RECOMMENDED 240watts adapter originally shipped.STEALTH MODE IS ENABLED ETC."

I have to turn then shut the pc down and re start the pc etc to get my notebook to not give me the adapter warning and have my system run on my discrete graphics card.

I have a M17x R1 with A04 bios.

I ran the system diagnostics using the resource disk and no issues found.

Is this a bios error?I think my system did not do this when I had the previous bios?

Thanks in advance.

There is a known bug with the A04 BIOS and adaptor warnings.

What was the date of the A04 BIOS you installed ?

there were actually 2 versions released, the latter was June with only the option to flash via ISO image

You can try to revert to the A03 BIOS and see if your issues goes away.

Thanks.Downloaded the bios A04 ISO image version and burned it on a disk and reinstalled the bios and the problem went away.

Just been to the Dell website and there's a new A05 BIOS out. The release notes state that it's supposed to fix the issue you describe. I'm seeing the same problem every now and again and I'm also on the A04. I've downloaded A05 and will install it in the next couple of days.

The A05 update fixed the issue. I had the same problem in A03. I updated to A04 and the problem got worse.

A05 fixes everything related to the AC Adapter. Update and you should be fine. Just make sure you have a blank CD to burn the bios on since its ONLY available as an ISO version. Cheers bro.

I updated to A05 on Monday and I haven't seen the adaptor warning since. Then again, it was intermittent and I'd only see it maybe twice a week, not on every boot.

Now what new problems has A05 introduced? I suppose we'll find out in the A06 release notes.

I doubt that they would give out A6 since A5 has been quiet

there have been some issues noted witgh A05 where the battery status indicates plugged in but not charging, I seen it a few times on my unit.

Toggleing the Fn + F key for battry charge on/off did get it back, but the soft reset also works.

Last, the adaptor warning bug is still there - that is..if you disable the adaptor warning in the BIOS it warns you everytime you boot up even if the adaptor is plugged in.

So I guess that A6 is in the oven Hopefully it works out soon.

cheers ...
