Save HP ZD8000

I'm trying to save an old HP ZD8000, I know these had their share of problems. This one had some bad overheating issues, but everything works, most of the time. Video is good, always boots, WINXP install ok. However, the keyboard and trackpad jerk. Meaning, they will stop responding for a second, then work again. I tried a USB mouse and it will work for a few minutes, then it's like the USB port turns off. I've cleaned out the fan areas, upgraded BIOS, drivers, etc. All 3 fans work as well, including the middle.

Anyone have any ideas?

When was the last time you took it apart and applying new thermal paste? A clean re-installation would also help.

cheers ...

Clean install already done. I'd love to not have to take it apart, but I'm starting to get to the point where I need to. I'm just trying to get it stable for a charity so they can use it.

I see. Well that is the only way left that I know of (and done many times) to try to get some life back onto used notebooks.

cheers ...
